As the year draws to a close, Hiram Clarke businesses are encouraged to join forces with South Post Oak Recycling Center (SPORC) in a collective effort to promote sustainability and environmental responsibility. SPORC, led by the visionary entrepreneur Brandi Harleaux, has set the standard for excellence in recycling in the Houston area with its innovative approach and commitment to building a sustainable future. The family-owned business was founded in 1994 and focuses on buying and recycling metals from households, industrial contractors, companies, and government entities in an environmentally responsible manner.

SPORC is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to handle various materials efficiently. From aluminum to metals and electronics, the facility provides comprehensive recycling solutions, reducing the environmental impact of waste disposal.

Harleaux’s vision for SPORC goes beyond the conventional model of waste management. She has introduced a fresh perspective by fostering partnerships with local businesses, aiming to create a circular economy that benefits the entire community. Her innovative, people-centered approach led to her being named the 2023 Small Business Administration’s Texas Business Owner of the Year. A second-generation owner, Harleaux previously worked in high-level organizational development roles at companies like Target and Disney, before deciding to return to her family’s metal recycling business and apply her corporate skills to drive sustainable impact.

Paving the Way for a Greener Future

By recycling key items, Hiram Clarke’s businesses have the opportunity to be part of a collective effort to reduce waste and protect our environment. Additionally, donors are compensated for the recycled materials they turn in. Together, we can conserve resources, decrease landfill usage, and positively impact the well-being of our community for generations to come. Key items to consider recycling as the year comes to an end and we prepare to start afresh in 2024 include:

  • Holiday lights
  • Old extension cords
  • Old electronics
  • Aluminum cans
  • Stainless steel pots and pans
  • Automobile batteries
  • Washer and dryer
  • A/C units

Sparking Change Through Community and Sustainability

Teaming up with Vice Mayor Pro Tem Martha Castex Tatum, SPORC presents the “Holiday Lights” campaign, urging Houstonians to contribute used lights this festive season. Donations are welcome until January 31, 2024, and can be dropped off Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the SPORC facility located at 14600 S. Post Oak Rd., Houston, TX 77045. Proceeds from the holiday lights drive go to District K’s clean-up team.

As Hiram Clarke businesses consider their year-end initiatives, joining hands with South Post Oak Recycling is a meaningful step towards fostering environmental responsibility, community development, and a brighter, more sustainable future for all.
