In an exciting endeavor fueled by collaboration and community-focused initiatives, the Hiram
Clarke Fort Bend Authority/TIRZ 25 recently demolished the former MADCO gas station paving
the way for the Fuqua Land Project. HCFB’s first land acquisition since being designated a TIRZ
in 2011, represents not only a significant step towards revitalizing the Hiram Clarke community
but also serves as a crucial catalyst for economic development.
The Fuqua Land Project is a prime example of the community’s commitment to meaningful,
sustainable development that uplifts and empowers its residents. By leveraging the potential of
an underutilized area, this project creates a unique opportunity for economic growth and
prosperity for Hiram Clarke. Aligning with the community’s larger plan for economic
development, transforming the old MADCO property into a vibrant destination, aims to generate
new business opportunities, attract investment, and create employment prospects for local
residents.
Mayor Pro Tem Martha Castex-Tatum emphasizes the pivotal role of the project in improving the
economic landscape of the community. “The Fuqua Land Project is an integral component of
our economic development strategy for Hiram Clarke. By creating a vibrant hub of business and
activity, we are nurturing an environment where residents can thrive, and local businesses can
flourish,” she states.
On December 14, 2023, residents and local officials gathered to witness the transformation of
the location of the Fuqua Land Project as demolition began on the previous MADCO site. This
came after years of community advocacy for the removal of the problem property, an excited
Bessie Mansfield, community member, and advocate, stated, “see something, say something,
and now we are getting something done. She later followed up with a joyous “Bye MADCO!”
The demolition paves the way for new businesses and industries to establish themselves in
Hiram Clarke. HCFB’s strategic plan also ensures that the development serves the needs of the
local residents, providing amenities such as parks, community spaces, and enhanced
infrastructure.
To maximize the project’s impact, the Hiram Clarke Fort Bend Authority/TIRZ 25 is partnering
with community organizations and stakeholders to ensure that the Fuqua Land Project truly
reflects the diverse needs and aspirations of Hiram Clarke residents. By fostering collaboration
and actively involving the community throughout the process, the project aims to build a
stronger, more inclusive local economy.
